Drunk Driving Durban
Submitted by capdog on Friday, December 1, 2006 - 18:08

December is finally here! It's an festive time for us, as the schools and varsities go on holiday and thousands of domestic tourists flock to the coast. However, it's also 'zero tolerance' month, during which the cops suddenly awaken from their 11-month coma, yawn, scratch their arses, and go blitzing across the province arresting offenders who've been getting away scott-free for the majority of the year.

I had somehow heard about these free yoga sessions happening on the radio and again in a Sunday newspaper supplement and decided to check it out yesterday.

Here’s the deal:

Gecko Earrings
Submitted by capdog on Sunday, November 12, 2006 - 12:00

Geckos are always the first thing foreigners notice when they get here. "Oh my god, there are LIZARDS everywhere!!" they scream in horror as they catch their first glance of the ceiling. Ahh... priceless indeed, but did you know the potential of these creatures for terrifying people goes far beyond the mere sight of them? Yes, and here is the new party trick which is sure to horrify both locals and visitors alike: it's called "Gecko Earrings".

The ShooterGate Scandal
Submitted by capdog on Thursday, September 28, 2006 - 18:03

Why is it that we insist on following trends when it comes to ordering shooters at the bar? I'm fairly sure it's not a phenomenon unique to Durban, but it certainly affects us all when a round of the 'in' shooter costs more than a monthly bond repayment.

Changing Over To Organic Green Tea
Submitted by the_looking_glass on Friday, September 15, 2006 - 06:51

For as long as I can remember, I've always been a morning coffee person. My day hadn't started until I'd had my coffee fix. A year ago I discovered how good herbal tea and green tea were as a substitute, and since then there's been no turning back.

Busting A Hangover
Submitted by capdog on Wednesday, August 9, 2006 - 13:56

People sometimes ask me how I always manage to be perky and energetic on the mornings following a big party or night out. I always tell them that I am the chosen one with a liver of steel, and they should not question my gifts! The reality is, of course, that I cheat certain death by following the hangover commandments, and drinking this magic elixir which can turn even the worst babelaas into a mildly annoying dry mouth.

Pet Scorpions

Working in a factory has its benefits. You get to keep the animals you find, and if you're really lucky, they're pregnant. Then you score a whole bunch of free animals.

Fist-pound vs. Handshake
Submitted by capdog on Tuesday, June 13, 2006 - 10:02

The handshake is in trouble. There's a new kid on the block that aims to dethrone the king of Western world greetings; and although I'm not particularly opposed to either, the confusion caused by the ongoing battle for supremacy has me irate.

International Passport To Cancer
Submitted by capdog on Thursday, June 8, 2006 - 07:16

This coaster that I spotted on the bar counter of On Cue last week, and which now resides in my personal collection, brought back distant memories of a time when I was healthy, and spent my days windsurfing off the coast of California with the sun on my face and the breeze in my blond, flowing hair. Memories of my active days, skiing down the icy slopes of Lake Tahoe, with nothing but Tina Turner playing on my cassette walkman and a smile of pure white teeth reflecting like the snow.

A lot happens when you're away for a weekend, and I've been on an extended holiday in Cape Town, thanks to our government's fantastic policy of having fourteen public holidays every year; and of course my mate's decision to get married in Stellenbosch. Now comes the hardest part: choosing a focused topic to write about, from all of the interesting things that deserve a mention!
