Fokofpolisiekar in Durban
Submitted by capdog on Wednesday, May 24, 2006 - 09:47

So many concerts, so little time to recover... On Tuesday night Durban had the privilege of hosting the best band in South Africa, Fokofpolisiekar. There, I said it. And you know it’s true.

EctomorphEctomorphLast night I broadened my musical horizons, at a presentation by The Red Bull Music Academy at De La Sol. The guests were Brendan M Gillen, a.k.a. Ectomorph, and The Real Estate Agents.

Lowprofile Mini Tour Report
Submitted by yusuf on Tuesday, May 2, 2006 - 06:53

Well, we made it there and back. Even though the distance wasn't THAT far and the time spent wasn't THAT long the task was arduous and it was an awesome weekend. Thanks, in most part, to T-Bone Billy and his bulging porn collection. Long live LA Cobra, the hottest band in town.

Splashy Fen 2006
Submitted by capdog on Tuesday, April 18, 2006 - 09:26

Last year's Splashy will stick in people's minds because of the huge controversy surrounding the drug bust. This year it will be remembered for the right reasons: great music, amazing weather and the fat party that everyone had. And no, despite the rumours, Jack Johnson was not able to make it again this year, let's all hope he sorts himself out before 2007!

Love Jones Album Launch
Submitted by capdog on Wednesday, April 5, 2006 - 06:31

In the last four days, three Durban bands have launched their albums! The one I missed was The City Bowl Mizers at Gateway on Saturday, which is a real downer because I love their music. On Monday night though we went to check out Love Jones at Wilson's Wharf, which was equally as impressive as Passenger's launch on Friday. In fact, I think it was exactly the same lighting rig that was used at Speaker Box.

Passenger Album Launch
Submitted by capdog on Tuesday, April 4, 2006 - 06:35

Passenger launched their first full length album on Friday night, in a very classy and high-budget event at The Speaker Box, Gateway. In case you haven't heard of them yet, they're one of Durban's hottest bands and were a very close second place in last year's Burn The Bands competition.

Submitted by capdog on Monday, March 27, 2006 - 08:50

Hey everyone, sorry for the lack of updates last week! It was a busy one for me, and not having access to the interweb at home doesn't help the situation any. Of course, just because I'm busy doesn't stop any of you guys from writing! So shape up! :)

An Idiot's Guide To Handing Out Flyers
Submitted by yusuf on Tuesday, March 14, 2006 - 07:05

If you’re in a band and you’ve walked the streets with a stack of flyers for your next show weighing you down, then you’ve no doubt felt the exact same pain, frustration, disbelief and indignation that I’m feeling right now. What’s wrong with people? Why is everyone so pathetic and disinterested? You’d think that I was trying to sell time share, life insurance or those deaf people’s cards that you HAVE to pay for instead of just trying to promote good local music.

Punk Rock Fiasco
Submitted by yusuf on Monday, February 27, 2006 - 13:47

Westville's inaugural punk show went down like a one legged man doing the hokey-kokey, which means it went very well. Lowprofile and Sibling Rivalry played at Chiltern Park Football club in Westville to more than 160 people. It was an interesting mix of fresh faced Westville junior locals, the older more hardened Westville drinkers and the loyal Durban punkers that made the trip to the sanctuary of the suburbs despite the crazy downpour and lack of any skyscrapers. Chiltern was temporarily transformed into teething mass of sweaty moshers and floorpunchers, while the hardened locals looked on sceptically, it was fantastic. Thanks to Brad 'Emo-boy' Wiley, Couch, Max and everyone that came and partied with us. Anyone interested can check out www.lowprofile.co.za or www.myspace.com/lowprofilesa for more information of this nature.
