IFP Supporters Looting Street Traders
Submitted by capdog on Monday, May 28, 2007 - 18:21 |

Despite the DA and IFP's claims to the contrary, we all heard the reports of violence and looting at the march against the name changes. Here's a fantastic picture of some marchers stealing from a street vendor! It was snapped by rogan.w and posted to his flickr account, check the original here.

A1 Gran Prix Driver Speaks
Submitted by capdog on Thursday, April 26, 2007 - 14:33 |

"So Durban is a ... [hesitates]... nice ... city, but not what I'd call my number one tourist destination."

So says James Hinchcliffe, the Canadian A1 Gran Prix driver who competed in this year's event on the Durban street track. In his YouTube video post, he talks about being dealt a poor hand in the race when his engine blew; as well as recounting a few stories influencing his view that Durban is a dangerous city, one that tourists would be better off avoiding.

Sticks And Stones
Submitted by hedmekanik on Wednesday, April 25, 2007 - 11:51 |

Sticks and Stones may break my bones but names... names will start a shitfight.

‘It was a war. People died on both sides. The war is over, and yet we continue to fight amongst ourselves. The dead would not want their names to be the cause of such bickering; they died so we could live in peace.’ – Viet Cong General, 1978, commenting on the rise of the politically-motivated renaming of streets and landmarks in the post-war period.

SuperHotJoy, BigWood & Some Nude Springboks
Submitted by hedmekanik on Tuesday, April 17, 2007 - 15:57

Kieran SmithKieran SmithFriday night saw a return to the formula that made Disturbance Design's erstwhile restaurant/gallery/design store "Home" so popular and so sorely missed. Held at Manna, 'Big Wood' featured artwork, stuffed toys, great tunes from Disturbance honchos Richard and Roger (and ex-Disturbian, Ryan); and the second Durban performance of SuperHotJoy. Ex-Cynosure lead Garret van der Spek's new outfit features Mike Goddard (Perez, Big Idea, Love Jones... this guy is a machine!) on drums, and Kieran Smith on bass (another accomplished machine!).

Splashy Fen 2007 Review
Submitted by capdog on Monday, April 16, 2007 - 07:55

This year it was completely off the hook, wild as a thousand drunk Blue Bulls fans at the Currie Cup final, and more trouble than ten metalheads trying to start a mosh pit in a pre-school playground. The video highlights, which flow more like an episode of Jackass than a festival pack, include: "The Naked Pole Race" and "The Party Trick", alongside loads of footage of the musicians and some juicy controversy on stage. Read on for the good times, the wet times, and some raging rants from yours truly!

Now, we're all familiar with the 'Save The Earth' rah-rah, and if you're not, welcome back, terribly sorry you were locked up in isolation for all those years in Outer Mongolia, but here's the lowdown, just to bring you up to speed - we're fucked.
