Greener Pastures: What Lies Beyond Durbs
Submitted by kliktrak on Wednesday, February 21, 2007 - 20:23

This last weekend was a "get outta town" one, that had me on the road at 4:45am on route to the Northern Berg for a hike and overnight in Xeni Cave, in the Cathedral Peak area.

So what lies beyond the boundaries of good ol' 'Thekweni? This trip in particular sampled some spectacular views and amazing natural wonders!

Kuluma TV
Submitted by capdog on Tuesday, February 20, 2007 - 12:20

This new production is an online video magazine, based on the yuppie hip-and-trendy, see-and-be-seen, pseudo-celebrity Durban lifestyle. The concept of the online videozine is quite progressive and ultimately a good idea, but in it's current state I find Kuluma TV lacking in punch.

Beware the Curves, Manna
Submitted by kliktrak on Tuesday, February 13, 2007 - 20:10

A belated invitation was received on Friday 9th to attend a screening of Cameron Platter's digital movie "Beware the Curves", with soundtrack composed and produced by Dean Henning (Captain Asthma, Sound of And Band and numerous other nomme de musique).

Intriguing as the invitation was, I had little idea of what lay in store at the beguilingly magnificent setting of Manna...

Leave My Onboard Baby Alone!
Submitted by Al on Tuesday, February 13, 2007 - 17:43

Al has sent in fantastic shots of these two CLASSIC Durban taxis! WHAT are they thinking? From Al: The "Leave Me Alone" one just screams irony.. is this a message to the traffic cops, the government or their own clients?!?

Radar Complex Review, Snap Wine Bar
Submitted by kliktrak on Monday, February 12, 2007 - 20:42

Well here we go again, this is my second review of a Radar Complex live performance, the first being at Glass Magic Castle a few weeks ago.

Far from being predictable (except for the superlatives I will use to describe their music) this gig had some differences.

Firstly the venue, Snap Wine Bar, on a Tuesday night hosts a range of artists, organised by Wicked Rock. The emphasis seems to be on providing more "unplugged"/acoustic or just plain chilled music, especially from some of the more well known and "louder" rock acts from Durbs.

Confessions Of A Taxi Owner
Submitted by capdog on Monday, January 29, 2007 - 14:29

Why this taxi owner chose "Tomb Raider", a 1996 computer game featuring a large-breasted British archaeologist, as the theme for his South African minibus taxi... in his own words... which capdog just made up...

Americans Wake Up, Realise Other Cultures DO Exist!
Submitted by capdog on Friday, January 26, 2007 - 09:19

There's a new trend in American prime-time TV shows, in which script writers are starting to use international characters over all-American ones. As media often leads popular opinion, I think we're going to see significant broadening of minds over on the other side of the Atlantic.

Ladies, there's a special treat in store for you today. In our quest to strengthen ties between the sexes, I'm going to let you in on a little guy secret that may seem slightly... er, strange; but that brings great pleasure to every warm blooded male on this planet.

Glass Magic Weaves A Sonic Web
Submitted by kliktrak on Tuesday, January 23, 2007 - 14:25

Well this review is slightly delayed, probably a good thing, as this last weekend saw a couple of awesome events going down in Durbs [see General MIDI article]. To paraphrase a famous quote: "something magical this way comes", as 2007 in Ethekwini is starting to take shape as a monster year of note for all things musical-entertainment!

So lets rewind to Friday 19 Jan, Glass Magic Castle, Hillcrest...
