Dial 'H' For Hero
Submitted by Gareth on Thursday, October 5, 2006 - 20:54

The other night – I forget which night... could have been a Tuesday - while watching Tim Burton’s Batman for the umpteenth time, I had an epiphany. Well, two actually. The first was that I needed some new shirts for cocktail hour – the pink craze for men being sooooo over.

Napalma Set To Bring The House Down
Submitted by the_looking_glass on Tuesday, October 3, 2006 - 20:03

A couple of months ago, on my way back from the beach, I got a call about some Brazilian group called Napalma performing at the old Glass Magic premises in Windermere Road. The rumble in my stomach was begging me to go home and get some food, but something inside told me I'd be sorry. So, for once I followed my head instead of my hunger, to a show that almost brought the house down (literally).

Wild At Heart
Submitted by shan on Tuesday, October 3, 2006 - 18:02

Seemed like every hipster and his long lost cousin turned up for this one. The only advertising I had heard for this gig was via Durbanscouts, but the word sure did spread like wildfire! Having high profile sponsors like Iron Fist, Miller and Camel coming to the party meant free MGD for the early part of the evening, and some scantily clad ciggie chicks peddling their wares with what was certainly the most inventive use of ammunition belts ever!

The ShooterGate Scandal
Submitted by capdog on Thursday, September 28, 2006 - 18:03

Why is it that we insist on following trends when it comes to ordering shooters at the bar? I'm fairly sure it's not a phenomenon unique to Durban, but it certainly affects us all when a round of the 'in' shooter costs more than a monthly bond repayment.

Southern Cross 2006 Review
Submitted by capdog on Wednesday, September 27, 2006 - 06:20

Mooi RiverMooi RiverHaving never been to a Southern Cross festival until last weekend, I really didn't know what to expect from this four day event in the stunning 'hidden valley' of Mooi River. I was therefore delighted to experience something quite unlike the wild debauchery normally associated with big music festivals in KZN.

Surfing Durban
Submitted by capdog on Thursday, September 21, 2006 - 06:37

My dirty little secret is that despite always thinking of myself as a bone fide Durbanite, I only started surfing this year. Shameful, I know, and be assured I spend sleepless nights thinking about how many good waves I’ve missed in my lifetime. Thing is, until recently, I’ve always thought that people who wake up at 5:00am to go to the beach in the rain were suffering from the condition known as ‘insanity’.

Wish To Know Taxi
Submitted by capdog on Tuesday, September 19, 2006 - 18:12

Just when you thought it couldn’t get any more ridiculous than “Down Loading Virus” (click here), this newcomer bursts onto the streets and steals the show. Yes, it’s “I wish to know”; a taxi that wears it's ignorance proudly on it's sleeve.

It’s a long weekend, so why not spend it at the Southern Cross music festival, which promises to be an unforgettable event. The highlights include Lark, Dan Patlansky and Durban’s own Dopescape; amongst many other quality bands.
