Seems like there's something for everyone this weekend. Check out the awesome duo Goldfish on Saturday night, head out to the midlands for a three day trance festival or catch some excellent bands playing at Burn.
FRIDAY 15th September
EarthDance Festival @ Byrne Valley
Time: Friday to Sunday!
Cost: R100
Over 250 parties occuring at once all over the planet... three days of trance and psy-trance with bands Veeva Feeva and Rooibaardt, see feature on durbanscouts.za.net for more info! Dance for peace!
Burn The Bands Competition @ Burn
Bands: Zauber, Code Of Silence, Regeneration, Timothylearyisinnocent, Noxious, Southern Crises
Cover: R20
Time: 9pm
The popular battle of the band format where 25 bands compete in a 'survivor' type format. Bands try and get one of three immunities to proceed to the next round. It gets tricky when they can't get the same immunity two heats in a row. Filled with drama, backstabbing and long lasting friends and alliances. Very rock 'n roll!

SATURDAY 16th September
Goldfish @ Society
Cover: R40
Time: 10pm
The one and only Goldfish are visiting us from Cape Town, to mix up an awesome night of jazzy electronica at Society! Unmissable event!
Foo Fighters Tribute @ Burn
Cover: R30 / R20 before 9pm.
Time: 11pm
In my opinion this ensemble of local musicians did a better job of playing Foo Fighters than Foo Fighters do but don't just take my word for it. The band did well in the Battle of the Tributes earlier this year and this tribute is back by popular demand.
Steve and Tara Fataar & Guests @ Glass Magic Castle
Where: 24a Old Main Road, Hillcrest
Cover: R30
Time: 9pm
Contact: 072 117 6221
Famous Durban personalities performing at Hillcrest's awesome live venue.
Clone & Regeneration @ The Winston Pub
Come around and have a laugh with us at the Winston this Saturday!

Hilton Arts Festival this weekend...

Some very cool theatre, music and dance.
One again these guys ROCKED! Instead of having the gig and dancefloor upstairs (which last time almost brought the roof down on the restaurant below), they set up a stage and projector on the bottom floor.
I've done an article on them before, check it out if you missed it (click here).
Stoked the Durban crowd is making an effort to support these guys, but I do long for the days when there was space to actually jam. Let's compare a photo of their first gig in Durbs to this last one (the third)...
Dom told me Durban is their favorite place to play! Awesome crowds, great vibe and down-to-earth people. Nice one. You can all take a moment now to pat yourselves on the back. Go on, you guys deserve it.
Well impressed with them, tight a nun's they were too....but I reckon they're gonna need a larger venue next time they play here - not enough room to swing a kitten at Society on Saturday. Although there were a fair few kittens on the lurk....meow. Seems that House has a place (fuck that, not a place, frikkin palace on a par with Versailles) in the hearts and minds of Debbenites - despite the death of clubs left and right, these bunnies just go on bouncing, where is another question but the enthusiasm is there all right. So I'm not surprised the Goldfishies are stoked - the crowds are so deprived they'd dance to Now That's What I Call Fromage #64 at the drop of a...bumble.
But I liked Goldfish, they've got the beats alright.
The force is strong with this one...
Having said that house has a palace in the hearts of Dbnites, the question that immediately springs to mind is where the hell were they all when Stereo MC's / Audio Bullies / Fatboy Slim played at Kings Park fields? Goddamn bunnies, only good for wiping a dancefloor with I tellya...
The force is strong with this one...
I think it's a different market - Goldfish are playing to the Society crowd who in the past probably never watch live acts. It's a totally new thing for them.
There's still the whole other 'raver' crowd that haven't yet experienced the Fish... a big potential market.
When the egg-munching, lip-chewing, Master Gurner brigade catch on those Golfishes are gonna see a thing or two. Packing the shelves, pulling on your pants, swiping the card, pointing to the stars. Damn, that Kulula ad is funny.
The force is strong with this one...
awesome to see our fish are so popular! we're gonna be launching the PLUSH/Rory Eliot invasion soon - i hope its gonna be as massive! rock out rorz
