After numerous International tours in 2007 including eight countries, Guy Buttery and Nibs van der Spuy will be performing on home ground in KwaZulu-Natal at the new Luna Lounge in Kloof. Packing out the legendary 'Half Moon' club in Putney, London earlier this month, loyal South Africans and newly converted Brits were treated to an evening of memorable, graceful interaction, leaving the audience awestruck. Local lovers of these two extraordinary musicians will witness a special show at the intimate home soiree in Kloof
Both Guy and Nibs have been over in Europe promoting their highly acclaimed, respective new releases, "Songs from the Cane Fields" and "Beautiful Feet". These two KwaZulu icons gained fresh ground and a devotee of new followers. As both their individual tours came to an end, they met up in London for a handful of unbelievable duo gigs.
Carving a big name for himself performing around South Africa for many years now, having received three separate nominations at the South African Music Awards, as well as being the youngest nominee in the history of the event, Guy Buttery is a national treasure. Guy has toured, performed and recorded with many of South Africa's musical giants including Vusi Mahlasela, Madala Kunene, Steve Newman, Gito Baloi and numerous other African greats and on the international field has worked with Shawn Phillips, Missy Higgins and The Violent Femmes. He has had his music used for various television programs and documentaries featuring works from his two critically acclaimed albums’, both of which have received rave reviews in Africa and the United States. Next year, Guy will be touring across South Africa, accompanying the founder of Windham Hill Records and multiple Grammy Award winning, Will Ackerman, performing in all of South Africa’s celebrated theatres. Guy's stirring live performances are renowned and consist of his idiosyncratic fingerstyle acoustic guitar pieces and sitar improvisations which delve into many genres including folk, maskanda, Celtic, world, etc. using classical and unorthodox techniques.
Although Nibs’ solo performances on the Southern tip have been far and few in the last while, he has been making a name for himself across the globe. His latest album, "Beautiful Feet", on the 2FEET label, has been released in Australia, UK, USA, Japan, Germany and France, receiving rave reviews in every territory, from the London Guardian to the Sydney Herald. It has also been album of the month on 4 acclaimed German publications and has been receiving airplay on some of its major radio stations. It is announced that "Beautiful Feet", will be the featured album of the week from 20 - 27 October, on one of the biggest and popular French stations, FIP. With Nibs’ first international release, it has seen the KwaZulu troubadour singer/songwriter/guitarist play his unique brand of acoustic music, through Italy, France, Holland, UK and was recently invited to play at the prestigious East Coast Blues & Roots Festival in Australia. Here Nibs shared the stage with luminaries such as Ben Harper, Jack Johnson, Taj Mahal, Bonnie Raitt and Bela Fleck.
