Earthdance is another example of the joining of intent through collective action that our generation is blessed to see. Over 250 parties occur at the same time across this planet three from the sun.
At one moment in time, stretched over twenty-four hours across the globe (imagine the earth stopped spinning for five minutes... that’s what I mean), a song called Prayer for Peace is played. The idea behind it is to get as many people as possible together in one moment in time to focus on peace. At the same time, it establishes the idea of dancing with intent, with a purpose.
"It was one of those rare moments where everyone got the reason of why they came out to dance in the first place"

The KZN venue is a farm out past Maritzburg. It’s a three day event from Friday 15 to Sunday 17th September. The music is mostly outdoor trance, smashings of psychedelic, and two really hot bands. One of them is Veeva Feeva who have featured at the Glass Magic Castle twice (thanks for the energetic performances), at Vestige on their Thursday night live music slot, and at Burn, I believe. Music is fresh and funki pop-sensible rhymes, but the groove is so tight. Think swinging to blaring trumpets and ska-ish guitars, while the drums swing back 'n forward. These guys have a great Manu Chao cover under their... sleeves.
The other band is Rooibaardt, who, if you don’t know, are an amazing amalgamation of sounds hailing from Bethlehem, South Africa. It’s a hybrid homesound - violin and guitars, voice and drum 'n bass. The sound is uniquely a blend of South African and Celtic influences, all wrapped up into S.A.’s answer to the Dave Matthews Band. No, they’re not hardcore, they’re talented musicians who play music that makes you want to lose your shoes and dance like a child. Checkout www.rooibaardt.co.za
The rest of the line-up is dominated by DJs by design. The majority of the crew is the core of the Lightworx Crew, Durban’s Decadent Dancefloor Designers. These are the guys who host the regular outdoor-trance scene in KZN. I’ve heard from hardcore Trancers and bushnuts across South Africa, that these parties are comparable to the bigger parties like Vortex and the like.
There’s some JoBurg representation behind the decks as well, which means fresh tunes!!! Both Vasun and Manoj from the Lapis Lazuli collective of DJs will also bring their individual stylings to the party.

earthdance is an annual event taking place in most countries. Cape Town's party was a massive shesshion from all accounts, and the central party was a full-on Festival, with hip hop artists and scratch DJs and a maasive line-up.
